Join a listening session with Drs. Jessica Berrett and Kate Angulski from UCCS as they explore the impact of the legalization of marijuana on nonprofits in Colorado.

With the growing number of states across the U.S. legalizing recreational and medical marijuana, dispensaries are thriving and want to give back to their communities. However, there is hesitation from nonprofits to accept donations from marijuana dispensaries, leaving the potential for millions of dollars on the table. Therefore, this study seeks to address how the legalization of marijuana impacts nonprofits. This first study of its kind will focus on Colorado and collect survey and interview data from nonprofit organizations, marijuana dispensaries, and state officials with Colorado's Marijuana Enforcement Division. We believe there is significant potential for this new, interdisciplinary collaboration to impact funding for nonprofits, legislative decision-making regarding legalization and dispensary licensure, and views on tainted money and giving back not only for Colorado but with implications for the broader U.S.

During this listening session, Drs. Berrett and Angulski want to learn what questions do you have about this topic, what would you like to see as a result of the study, and is there anything we should be aware of as we dive in? This input will help design the surveys, which will be distributed in late summer/early fall.
