Annual Philanthropy Award Nominations

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Southern Colorado Chapter is currently seeking nominees for our annual Philanthropy Awards to be presented after the 18th Annual Summit on Philanthropy in Colorado Springs, CO on Friday, September 27, 2024 at a special awards reception.

Join us in showing our appreciation for the many accomplishments that have been made in the name of giving. Nominating an individual or organization is your chance not only to shine the spotlight on the people who truly make a difference but also to remind our communities that the spirit of giving is alive and well.

The nomination process is simple; honoring a colleague is worth your time! Don't delay -- the application deadline is 5:00 pm on FRIDAY, JULY 12, 2024.

Award Categories

Outstanding Fundraising Professional

This award recognizes an individual who brings honor, dedication, and distinction to the profession. The recipient should exemplify the professional standards set by AFP. Nominees need to have demonstrated experience in fundraising and be currently active in the field.

Young
Fundraising Professional

This award recognizes an outstanding individual, age 39 or under, who is gaining notability in the field of fundraising. The recipient of this award should demonstrate ingenuity, resourcefulness, creativity, and mastery of philanthropy.

Philanthropic company or Organization

This award recognizes a small or large company or organization with a proven record of exceptional generosity that, through direct financial support, demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility.

Small is defined as fewer than 99 employees.
Large is defined as more than 100 employees.

AFP SOCO reserves the right to decline to name an honoree in any category depending on the nominations received. All entries must be submitted electronically through the AFP online nomination system.


Tips for Submitting a Successful Nomination

  1. The application deadline is firm, no exceptions.
  2. Make sure your nominee meets the minimum requirements noted on the application. If not, please do not go forward with the nomination.
  3. Make sure your nominee can attend the Awards Reception, Friday September 27, 2024 in Colorado Springs, CO.
  4. Give comprehensively summarized answers (up to the maximum words). Less is more, but less than 300 words can hurt a nomination.
  5. Use your responses to tell a story, not only to list or record facts. Compelling, well-organized, and well- articulated content is critical for understanding why your nominee should receive the award.
  6. Specifically answer the question posed. Responses that do not tie directly to questions will receive low point scores and weaken your nominee’s opportunity.
  7. Responses that verify your nominee’s involvement with multiple organizations are much stronger than those which demonstrate your nominee’s involvement with only one or your organization. Partner with those organizations to complete the nomination and letters of support.
  8. Letters of support that specify a nominee’s impact can sometimes tip the balance in a close situation. Generic, non-specific letters of support do more harm than good.
  9. Have someone you trust proofread the application for content and typos before you submit it. We all know what it’s like to read poorly constructed proposals and letters.
  10. Nominators - your involvement won't end when the nomination is complete. You and your organization will be instrumental in ensuring the proper acknowledgment in the months leading up to the Awards Celebration. It is our hope that you will send a core group of supporters to the event.
